Since shipping stickers are free at the post office, since the late 1970's "starving artists" have used them as mini canvases to create tiny works of art.  Artists often stick them around town to get their name out there. And, since they're easy to mail in an envelope with a stamp to art fans all around the world, they can be an affordable way to support your favorite artist.
